Fire blankets for real emergencies

European EN 1869:2019 certified fire blankets for domestic and professional fire control

Why a fire blanket is a smart first choice

Most home fires start small. In those first seconds, you want something that’s fast, simple and clean.

  • Instant action: pull, cover, and cut off oxygen.
  • No mess: no powder residue on food, surfaces or electronics.
  • Lower risk: especially around hot oil and grease (Class F).
  • Easy under stress: no pin, pressure or aiming.

A fire blanket doesn’t replace a fire extinguisher β€” it complements it by handling the most common small indoor fires quickly and safely.

Fire extinguishers are powerful tools, but they require training and can spread burning oil if used incorrectly. A fire blanket is often the safest first response for small indoor fires.

  • Fire blanket: smothers flames, clean, simple β€” ideal for kitchens and clothing.
  • Extinguisher: stronger range β€” best when trained and for larger fires.

Effective against grease & oil fires (Class F)

Grease and oil fires burn hotter and faster than ordinary flames. Many low-density fire blankets are not designed for this β€” ours are.

Thicker fabric means more protection

A heavier fire blanket blocks heat longer and protects your hands better when seconds matter β€” especially with burning oil or clothing.

Compliant with EN 1869:2019

Important: Not all fire blankets are suitable for grease and oil fires. Class F performance requires sufficient fabric density.

πŸ‘‰ Why Class F matters Click to learn more

Grease and oil fires behave very differently from ordinary fires.
They burn at higher temperatures, spread faster and can re-ignite if they are not fully smothered.

Many standard fire blankets are designed mainly for small object fires and lack the fabric density needed to block intense heat from burning oil or fat.

Class F performance indicates suitability for grease and oil fires, which are the most common fire type in domestic kitchens and professional food environments.

DVM fire blankets use a high-density fiberglass weave (430+ GSM). This thicker fabric provides a more reliable heat barrier and helps prevent flare-ups during smothering.

In practice, this means:

  • safer use on burning pans and deep-fat fires
  • better hand protection during deployment
  • reduced risk of re-ignition after covering the fire

How to use a fire blanket in 3 steps

Keep it simple: pull, protect your hands, and smother the fire.

1Pull the tabs to release the fire blanket from the bag

Pull the tabs

Pull the tabs straight down to release the blanket from the bag.

2 Hold the top edge to protect your hands and place the blanket over the fire

Protect your hands

Hold the top edge so your hands stay protected, and place it gently over the burning pan or object.

3 Switch off the heat if safe and leave the blanket in place until everything cools down

Leave it in place

Switch off the heat if safe and leave the blanket in place until the pan and blanket have fully cooled down.

Tip: Do not lift the blanket to β€œcheck” the fire β€” keep it sealed to cut off oxygen.
